All Good Things...

Well, my friends. It is done. "It", in this case, refers to more than one subject. Today's comic does wrap up the final part in our current three part arc, but it also has another function. It serves to conclude the story that is Caveat Lector. The ultimate comic, if you will. Today is the final chapter. There was some speculation on the forums as to how this arc might end. I don’t think we’ve fulfilled those dreadful prophecies, but even if we did; in our minds, there was no other way for this thing to end. And really, could you think of something more apropos?
The past two and a half years have been truly special. Watching the process of taking a silly, one-dimensional idea and molding it over the course of hundreds of days until we hold in our hands The Thinker has brought me great joy. But, as with all things in this life, there is a time to say good-bye. And I feel like that time is now. We've spent a long time with these characters that congealed into life from our dark, twisted minds and they will always be a part of who we are. Without detailing endlessly the reasons behind the decision, suffice it to say, that this path of ends is one that must be traveled.
I want to thank everyone who continued to read CL week after week, and some of you, who have done so since its inception over two years ago. You guys made this something not to be forgotten. Admittedly, we never rose to the monumental fame we so often boasted was our fate, but the time spent creating and sharing these little fragments of our personality with you was not wasted. A special thanks to all of our forum members who actually took time out of their lives to socialize and converse with us. That is no small feat, believe me.
Lastly, every fiber of thanks, appreciation and love I can muster goes to Cas. Without him, Caveat Lector would not have ever existed, at least not in the form it stands before us today. You may joke that your part was less than equal, but the truth is apparent to all who look upon its radiance. We've been friends for a long time and this project will now stand for all the Internet to see like a giant erect monument to our greatness, even if it's only true inside our heads. Thanks, buddy. I think we accomplished something really fucking great.
As for our future, I sincerely believe that if the moon and heavens align just right, you may see us again. Perhaps not in the form you now recognize, but I will not say that I am getting out of the webcomic business forever. Such things, no one can predict, but right now I need to step away and spend some time on other things. I plan to keep the website running for as long as the Internet exists. Or until I don't want to pay for it anymore. My ultimate goal would be to transform the site into a conduit we could use to continue to communicate with you, the web denizens. At this point, such things are merely speculative fantasy, but the Caveat Lector domain is ours. And as a feudal lord over his fiefdom, we shall reign supreme. We'll turn this shit into a porn site if we have to.
Anyway, it's been a blast everyone. I'm not sure I've said all that should be and probably some that shouldn't, but if you have any comments or would like to direct any animosity towards me, you are free to do so as has always been the case in the forum. Most of what was written above may sound like a load of mushy junk, and perhaps it is, but as silly as all this was it did mean a great deal. It’s very sad to step away, but I'm proud to have done it and glad all of you could share in this experience with us. Thank you. Truly.
Peace.
See you space cowboy... |
