As I write this, I suppose it is technically Christmas morning; a time, as a young child, I would barely be able to sleep in eager anticipation for the earliest glimpses of sunlight cracking over the horizon. Now, as a young man, I’m sipping on some spiced rum and doing a little work with web design. Amazing how the times change. Go figure.
As I made reference to it, I am currently working on a new layout for the site. Typically that process goes as follows; I scour the seedy underbelly of the internet for Wordpress themes which, in general terms, resemble a desired form; ignoring variable conditions such as color scheme and focusing more on style and overall appearance. This allows me to take someone else’s hard work and shape it to achieve my own goals and ambitions. It’s like letting someone run ninety-five percent of a race and taking over the last five. The glory is all mine. I’ve narrowed in on a style and shape I’m happy with but still need to iron out the little details.
Other than toiling away on the site, I’ve been spending much of my free time working for the man. In this specific case, the man’s name is Andy. The job is starting to represent something I actually don’t mind doing, but it is still far from being ideal. I try to remind myself to be patient; that working at all is better than the limbo I occupied over a four-month period only a few weeks ago. The prevalence of four-day weekends recently has certainly made for an increase in overall morale. A recent company holiday party also bolstered spirits – in more ways than one. Let’s just say that. I’ve got a few choice digital images of my coworkers in their most compromising of moments. That’s a valuable asset, should I ever need it.
Speaking of morale, if you haven’t noticed, it’s Winter. Easily my least favorite of the four seasons. And living in Minnesota, it comprises a solid quarter or more of the year. I was shocked to see the news coming out of the east about a terrible blizzard covering the landscape with sheets of white refuse. Mostly I was shocked because we, here in Minnesota, had some how lucked out. It seems my hopes were foolish and naive, indeed. As of yesterday, the snow has begun falling and is supposed to endure until the end of the weekend. Like a snow bender. Normally, I love benders, but with the alcohol replaced by dangerous travel conditions and general malaise, I’m less enthusiastic.
I’m hoping with the abundance of time allotted by the holiday weekend I’ll be able to not only finish the site design but also post some stuff a little more frequently. And by “stuff”, I am more than likely referring to anime-related materials. If I could only find employment somewhere writing anime reviews. Such a dream might be too dangerous to ponder at any serious length. In lieu of shimmering fantasies, I’ll settle for smearing my foul proclivities all over this personal ad space. I am paying for this shit, after all.
Happy holidays.
Peace.
